Whether someone uses he/him, she/her, they/them, other pronouns, or their name, it’s a choice that honors how they experience themselves in the world.
When we use the correct pronouns for someone, we’re validating their identity. We’re saying, “I see you. I respect you. I honor who you are.” Isn’t that the kind of energy we all deserve?
The Power of Small Actions
Using someone’s pronouns might feel like a small thing, but it carries immense weight. Imagine how empowering it feels for someone to hear their pronouns spoken with care. It’s a gesture of understanding, an invitation to be seen in a world that often wants to categorize and confine.
I remember telling my dad about my pronouns. His initial reaction was a mix of curiosity and confusion. He asked questions like, “But isn’t that grammatically incorrect?” Part of me wanted to scream, but instead, I paused. I took a deep breath and used the moment to build a bridge rather than a wall.
One exchange stood out. As I shared my excitement about starting Galactic Flow, I called him a “He Boss.” He smiled and said, “I like that.” It was a simple yet powerful reminder that respect and connection can transform even the most challenging conversations.

Being an ally when it comes to pronouns is simple yet powerful. Here are a few ways to show up for others:
- Ask and Listen: If you’re unsure of someone’s pronouns, don’t be afraid to ask. A simple, “Hey, what are your pronouns?” can make a big difference. We are human and mistakes happen! Acknowledge, correct yourself, and show your intention by trying again.
- Share Your Own Pronouns: Normalize this conversation by letting others know your pronouns too. "Hi, I'm Kassidy they/them." This creates a safe space where everyone feels comfortable sharing.
- Respect Boundaries: Not everyone may feel comfortable sharing their pronouns right away. If someone doesn’t wish to share, respect their privacy and use their name.
- Be Open to Learning: Gender is a spectrum, and language evolves. Stay curious and open to learning about new pronouns and terms. It’s a journey we’re all on together.
