We Are Still Here and We’re Not Going Anywhere

*sigh*
To say we’re feeling a little heartbroken right now would be an understatement. Seeing a person who so openly holds disdain for marginalized communities - and the people who support him only reinforcing how little they care about People of Color (POC), women, and queer folks - become the president-elect feels like a gut punch to everything we’ve worked so hard to build. It’s hard to find words that capture the disappointment, the fear, and the anger that so many of us are feeling.
But this moment? It won’t break us.
I remember being asked many times, “When are you going to have children?” And I would respond, “Why would I bring more Black babies into a world that is going to hate them? Why?” It was such a strong viewpoint I had that nothing could convince me to stop allowing the unfortunate many who could care less about me and my people the space to destroy joy.
There were a lot of things that eventually helped me soften my perspective (my nephews, for one, who I want a better future for), and I came to realize something important: I deserve joy. I deserve love. I deserve to be my authentic, intersectional self and know that my existence, my taking up space, is important. No one gets to diminish that. Not even myself.
So, we refuse to give up or give in.
We are still here. We’ve always been here. And we’re not going anywhere.
This moment is a reminder of just how important it is to keep showing up. To keep holding firm in our truth, no matter how uncomfortable it might be for those who want to erase us. We are a force of creativity, love, and authenticity, and we will never apologize for that.
Yes, it’s scary right now. Yes, it’s easy to feel like everything we’re working toward, everything we’ve built and are still fighting for, could be swept away in an instant. But I strongly believe that every time we show up, every time we live authentically, we’re resisting. We’re proving that love, creativity, and inclusivity will always be stronger than hate.
We are in this together. And together, we will rise.
So, what’s next?
We keep doing what we’ve always done. We keep creating. We keep learning. We keep pushing boundaries. We keep uplifting each other and remember that rest is just as important as the work, especially on the tough days. We’ll keep amplifying the voices that need to be heard. We’ll keep making space for joy, for laughter, for everything that reminds us why we fight in the first place.
We’re here for the long haul. We’re not backing down. Not today. Not ever.
We know the road ahead may feel uncertain at times. But we also know this: we’re stronger together. We’re bolder together. We’re unstoppable when we unite, support each other, and pour love into everything we do.
So, let’s keep going. Let’s keep shining our light. Let’s keep showing up, showing out, and being the change we want to see in the world.
Because we are still here. And nothing, not fear, not hate, not uncertainty, can take that away from us.
With love, joy, and the fiercest solidarity,
Kassidy
